Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you give one breeding only or one per year?
You donate one breeding each year you want foals included. If a stallion signs up today, all get born from 2009 back are eligible. If he doesn't donate in 2009, his get from 2010 are not eligible.
Are all the stallions foals up for prize money or just those from the donated breeding?
A donation for 2008 enrolls all previous get including ones born in 2009. For 2010 foals, you would donate this time next year.
Is this a futurity?
No, all existing get are automatically enrolled, not just ones from the purchased breeding.
Where do I bid?
As this is not an auction, there is no bidding or watching necessary. You buy the breeding first-come-first served for 50% of their advertised fee.
Who wins the money?
Any offspring of an enrolled stallion that pins Champion/Reserve and/or Top Ten in a Payback class, and the owners of the 2 top sires will receive 5% each!
Why should I buy through Payback?
Not only can you get a great stallion service for half price, but there is a MONEY BACK GUARANTEE even for frozen semen.
I have a ten year old gelding sired by a SHN Payback stallion. Is my gelding eligible to win the Payback prize money at Sport Horse Nationals?
Yes. All progeny of Payback stallions are eligible to win money at the Arabian Sport Horse Nationals.
I have a thoroughbred mare that I would like to breed to one of the Warmblood stallions in the Payback program. Am I allowed to buy a breeding through SHN Payback if the mare is not an Arabian.
Yes. If the stallion is not listed as “Arabian mares only” or “Arabian/Anglo-Arabian mares only”, then the mare may be of any breed.
Are only foals resulting from those breedings purchased through SHN Payback eligible for Payback prize money?
No. Any and all foals sired by Payback stallions are grandfathered into the program and may win the money.
Do I have to nominate the mare for the foal to be eligible? What is the cost for nomination?
No, there is no mare nomination required in this program, so there is no cost.
How much does it cost to enroll my stallion in the program?
There is no cost. To enroll a stallion, simply donate a breeding to the program.
Is there a cost to enroll my foal by a Payback sire into the program before it can win the prize money?
No, there is zero cost. All progeny by Payback sires are immediately eligible to win the prize money.
What if my mare does not get in foal from the breeding I purchased?
You may have your money refunded in full, or transfer that purchase to another stallion or to another mare.
I read that the top two sires in the program each year, based on progeny winnings at SHNs will win 5% of the total prize money. Is that limited to the Purebred Arabian sires, or is it open to all Payback sires of all breeds?
It is not limited to Purebred Arabian sires. Any Payback sire is eligible for the 5% prize money incentive.
To determine the top two Payback sires every year, are only the selected Payback classes used to determine the top sires, or do all classes at SHNs count?
All classes count. So progeny winning in Working Hunters, Jumpers, FEI dressage, Driving, Open classes, and Amateur classes, ALL classes, are used to determine the top two Payback sires.
I am undecided on which stallion breeding to purchase. When is the last date I can make that decision and purchase the breeding for this year?
The last date to make a purchase for this year’s breedings is 30 July. But be sure to check with the stallion’s owner to find out the last day of their breeding season and when they will accept client mares, as it may be before 30 July.
When do breedings for 2009 become available?
September 1, 2008 is the beginning of the 2009 season. First come, first served!
Is any of the money raised through the sale of stallion breedings used for administrative or advertising costs?
No. 100% of the money raised is awarded as Prize Money at the Sport Horse Nationals. Administrative and advertising costs are paid by cash donations and by the program founders out of pocket expenses.
What classes at the SHNs award the Payback prize money?

How is the money divided among the winners in the Payback classes?
The top two stallions are awarded 10% of the prize money. The remaining 90% is divided by the number of Payback classes (currently 16), then awarded to the winners as follows:
Champion 60%
Reserve Champion 40%
Example: If there is $20,000 raised for the year, then $2,000 is awarded for the stallions, with $1,000 going to each of the top two sires. The remaining $18,000 is divided by 9 (the number of classes) for $2,000 for each class. This gives:
Champion $1200 (60% of $2,000)
Reserve Champion $800 (40% of $2,000)
What if the Champion or Reserve Champion are not Payback eligible?
Then the unclaimed money is divided equally among those Payback eligible horses in the Top Ten.
Example: If the Champion is not Payback eligible and there are two horses in the Top Ten plus the Reserve Champion that are Payback eligible, then the 60% is divided equally among those three in the Top Ten (Res. Champ is also a Top Ten winner). So if there was $20,000 raised for the year as in the above example, then the Champion's $1,200 would be divided by 3, making an additional $400 for the three Top Tens:
Reserve Champion $800 + $400 = $1,200
Top Ten $400
Top Ten $400
